DuPage County, West service area
Naperville is really two towns for a painter: the historic streets around the old center, where the houses are a century older than the rest, and the large subdivisions west and south of them that went up between the late eighties and the mid two thousands.

What this town asks for
What Naperville homes ask for most, and what the housing stock here tends to need.

The housing stock here
A Naperville quote depends almost entirely on which part of town the house is in, and the two halves barely share a technique.
Around the old center, the stock runs Victorian and early twentieth century: wood clapboard and shingle, deep trim profiles, porch columns and rails, and storm windows that have to come off before anything sensible can happen to the sash. This is slow, detailed exterior work where most of the cost is in preparation rather than coating, and where a company quoting by square foot will either lose money or cut the prep. Some of these properties sit inside the historic district and carry review on what is visible from the street, which is worth checking before a color is chosen rather than after.
West and south, the subdivisions are a different animal. Two-story homes built from the late eighties onward, brick or stone on the front elevation and siding on the other three, aluminum-clad windows, and an association with a palette. The work here is siding, soffit, fascia, trim, garage doors and the front door, and the brick stays as it is. Painting sound brick is close to permanent and changes how the wall handles moisture, so it is not something to do because a color scheme would look better.
Fiber cement is common on anything newer, and it behaves differently again. Hardie holds its factory color for a long time and fails at the joints first, so the right answer on a fifteen-year-old house is often caulk and touch up rather than a full repaint, and we will say that even though it is the smaller job.
Associations set the schedule as much as the weather does. Palettes, submission forms, approval windows. We quote inside the list, name the manufacturer and code on the quote so approval is a formality, and match rather than substitute where a palette specifies a brand we do not carry.
Inside, the newer stock brings its own pattern: two-story foyers, open stair halls and vaulted family rooms that need proper access equipment rather than a ladder balanced on a landing. That access is a real line on a Naperville interior quote. Anyone who leaves it out is either planning to work unsafely or planning to ask for more money in week two, and it is worth asking about directly when you compare quotes.
For some of them, yes. Naperville has a historic district around the original town grid and properties inside it can carry review on anything visible from the street. Paint color is usually the least of it, but it is worth checking before you commit to a scheme rather than after. We will tell you what we know and point you at the village rather than guess on your behalf.
Yes, and it is most of what we do out here. Send us the approved list and we quote inside it. Where a palette names colors from a brand we do not carry, we match rather than substitute, and we put the manufacturer and code on the quote so the association can approve it without a conversation about whether it is the right gray.
Usually the siding, soffit, fascia, trim, garage doors and the front door, and not the brick. Painting brick is close to permanent and changes how the wall dries, so we do not recommend it as a cosmetic fix on a house where the brick is sound. The common mistake on this elevation is quoting the whole house and pricing brick nobody is going to coat.
Three to five working days for most two-story homes here, weather permitting, and the weather is the variable that matters. We do not start a coat we cannot finish before rain, and we would rather tell you on the Tuesday that Thursday has moved than get a coat on and watch it wash.
