What the job involved
Project story.
This Winnetka exterior needed more than a quick wash and roll. Cedar shake on the south and west sides had failed film and gray fibers that would not hold a thin coat. We walked the elevations with the homeowners, photographed problem areas, and separated coating work from a few carpentry notes so the written scope stayed honest.
Prep took the time the wood required: cleaning, scraping failed coatings, treating bare shake, and sealing open joints at dormers and porch edges. Finish coats went on only after those surfaces were ready. Trim and the porch ceiling were sequenced so color breaks stayed crisp.
Lake weather is the reason this kind of house rewards patience. Wind-driven moisture finds weak edges first. The goal was an even finish that still looks right after freeze and thaw, not a one-day sheen that chalks off early.
